I pride myself on offering expertise but in a friendly and accessible manner. I enjoy finding solutions to make running your business easier and more effective. Knowledge is power, and I believe in transferring that to the business owner so you can work with the confidence that you are doing things safely.
I have worked in local government for many years in environmental health and alcohol licensing, and ended up specializing in food safety. I moved to the private sector to allow myself more flexibility, and so I could pursue different projects like training and coaching.
I think its important for our food system to have small innovative producers, independent from the large corporations controlling some food chains. Supporting these small businesses by helping them achieve compliance is a way I can contribute to a better food system. I enjoy working with business owners that are passionate about what they do, be it growing mushrooms or brewing kombucha.
Outside of my work, I volunteer at the Nelson Army Cadet Unit working with young people to develop leadership skills. I also play saxophone, rather badly, in a swing band. When I have free time I love getting out in the outdoors bikepacking and tramping and seeing the beautiful country we call home.

We are aiming to conduct our business in a way that reduces our impact on the environment and is sustainable into the future. Measures we are taking include:
- cycling to local appointments in Nelson where possible
- planning efficient journeys in the region when car travel is required
- working from a home office to avoid commuting
- minimal printing by working digitally where possible
- encouraging the businesses we work with to consider sustainability issues
We have undertaken an EKOS carbon footprint estimate for the 2020-2021 financial year which estimated 1.4 tonnes of CO2 emitted. 55% of this was from vehicle emissions and 21% from domestic flights. These will be areas of focus for reduction in the coming year.
