Not many events are going ahead at red level. So its time to think differently. Here are some ideas to consider for other places to trade:
Find some Commercial Zoned land
Generally you cant trade in residential areas, but you can in commercial zoned areas. So one idea that can work well is finding a friendly business in a commercially zoned area that will allow you to set up there. For example a bike showroom on the high street might like a coffee cart outside so people browse the bikes while waiting for coffee. Or a business that’s shut at weekends or evenings might be fine with you setting up in their carpark at those times. Consider if you are self-contained or do you need services like power or water and how much you could offer to pay for those.
Dining at home
Some people are reluctant to go out at the moment, so can you go to them? You could prep at your home base or on your van and deliver for a dinner party, or even cook at their place. Or offer a cooking class or demo for added entertainment.
Workplaces
Workplaces that have a mix of staff and cant go out for socializing may be interested in dining in experiences too. Could you offer a lunchtime or afterwork social by setting up at their place? Staff might want to eat there and take some home for the family.
Aged Care Villages, and Early Childcare Centres
They’re often looking for different activities and things to interest the oldies and littlies. Would they enjoy a visit from an icecream truck or dumpling van or pizza or smoothie trailer? Can you offer small portions or healthy options or an interactive experience like build your own pizza?
Council or Public land
Most Councils have a bylaw that says where you can and cant trade on public land, like at parks and the beach. These can be quite restrictive so make sure you check with them before you set up somewhere. Some Councils have sites you can lease. You’ll generally need to show all your certificates like food registration, WOF, Gas, Electrical safety and often have Public Liability Insurance.
Collaborate
If a friend has a truck and does weddings and parties, do you have a complimentary one, like providing dessert or drinks that could work well together?
Try and think where the people are and go to them! Best of luck and hang on in there, good times are coming.
