Traceability

traceability record example

If something goes wrong and you have to do a recall, the first few questions are what did I make, when, how much did I make and where did it all go? These are the fundamentals of traceability.

If its a supplier recalling a particular batch of an ingredient, then you’ll want to know which batches of food you’ve used it in, so you don’t have to recall absolutely everything.

Lots of business don’t currently have great traceability records, so here’s a free template for batch production records to help get started. You’ll need to modify it to suit your products and ingredients. Another option is recording the date you started using certain ingredients and their best before and batch codes. Check out the free template for both examples.
